Supply drop-off for Pre-K and Kindergarten. On August 6th and 7th, Thursday and Friday, parents will be able to drop off their Pre-K or Kindergarten student's supplies from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. This will be a curbside drop off at the west end of the elementary building. We recommend taking advantage of this opportunity since parents will not be able to enter the building on August 13th.

Dear Navajo Family,

Due to the pending State Board Meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 23, Navajo Public Schools will DELAY Posting the Question/Answer Document, originally scheduled to go out today, Wednesday, July 22, to give specific details about our Return to School plans for the Fall of 2020.

We want to avoid any confusion, IF decisions are made at the STATE level at tomorrow’s State meeting that could affect/change some of our information.

We plan to POST the Navajo Public Schools Q&A document with Return to School details tomorrow after the State School Board Meeting.

Thank you for your patience during this challenging planning time.

Dear Navajo Family,

As Superintendent of Navajo Public Schools, I want to express my gratitude for your patience and partnership! I know our students and parents are eager to know what school is going to look like this year. We have tried to wait to communicate with you in order to have the most up to date information moving into the 2020-2021 school year!

Please keep in mind that the challenges we are all facing with COVID change daily. We need to all have a POSITIVE OUTLOOK and try not to get bogged down in all the negativity.

The safety of our students and staff are TOP priority, and at the same time our goal is to host a Positive School environment for our students/staff to come to and have the most normal school day as possible each and every day!

Yes, we are planning to have school start on August 13, 2020! We will have many safety Precautions in place, along with extra custodians this year to ramp up cleaning! SOME changes you will notice are: Water bottle refill station swill replace water fountains, social distancing will be encouraged. At this time, masks will be strongly encouraged …but not mandated however, Masks will be required on the bus routes, as social distancing won’t be possible. Parents are welcome to bring their children to school! Visitors will be served curbside, as we want to limit entry into our school buildings.

We are even installing UV-C Lights in all of our HVAC systems to improve the indoor air quality and kill germs and viruses in our buildings!

Our Leadership Team is working on a document to answer lots of questions about the procedures of the 2020-2021 school year! We should have Draft#1 out by Wednesday, July 22, 2020! We will have administrator emails listed in this Q&A for our parents to contact, with any questions/concerns/input! Remember….this will be DRAFT#1!

We recently posted an UPDATED 2020-2021 school calendar on Facebook! Please take a few minutes to look at it! We have added in 2 virtual days a month, which was highly approved of in the parent survey we sent out in June! These days will help prepare students and staff for long term Distance Learning, IF THE NEED ARISES. Please note, that the situation we are in with COVID is unpredictable and ever changing! IF and WHEN it looks like we won’t NEED long term Distance Learning this school year, we could take another look at our school calendar and remove the Monthly Distance Learning Days! What a BLESSING that would be!

The State School Board has a meeting scheduled next week, as well! I anticipate specific direction from the State School Board in a few decisions we are in the process of making. We are also in contact with local, County and State health officials and value their input on our Return to School procedures, as well! We will be following state, federal and CDC guidelines!

IF you, as a parent, have specific questions/concerns please email administrators at Navajo School. Email addresses available on the school website www.navajo.k12.ok.us.

Thank you for choosing Navajo Public Schools for your children’s education! We are Thankful for each and every member of the Navajo Family!

Respectfully,

Vicki Nance

We have a new board approved School Calendar as of yesterday July 14th. There are 2 Virtual days per month starting in September. These will be used to prepare us in case of another extended school closure due to Covid-19. We will have 2 school days in August (the 21st and 28th) to train students on how to use our online platform of Google Classroom while being at school. However, starting in September on those days highlighted yellow on the calendar students will not be at school but will be required to complete the classwork given those days through our online platform or via paper packets that will be handed out the Thursday before. We are planning on being back in school on August 13th and will have our "Return to Learn" plan posted next week. Below is a link to access the school Calendar: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/732267/2020-2021_Calendar_with_Distance_Learning_built_in.pdf

Athletes will need to get a sports physical in order to participate in practices and games for the upcoming school year. We are working on creating a sport packet that is completely digital but you will need to print and take the physical form to your physician and bring back to your coach. This is the link for the form: http://www.ossaa.net/docs/2016-17/MiscForms/MF_2016-17_PhysicalForm.pdf

Thank you for your support of Navajo Public Schools this school year. Emergency distance learning in April and May required a monumental team effort between our teachers, staff and families. I am proud of what we accomplished by working together. We plan to return to school in the fall and are excited to welcome our students and teachers back into our buildings. However, it is important for us to understand your preferences with regard to the upcoming school year. Your input is critical as we work toward putting plans in place that accommodate the wide variety of needs our students, staff members and their families may have. Navajo Public Schools plans to reopen at this time as scheduled for the 2020-2021 school year. We are focused on the safest and most practical return options and that is where we need our families help. We will continue to monitor CDC and state recommendations due to the changing nature of the Covid-19 pandemic. Please login to your students google classroom account and take the survey as it will help us plan for the upcoming school year. Please have it completed by Monday July 6th. Please complete only one survey per household. No plan for reopening for the 2020-2021 school year has been approved at this time. The questions in the survey are designed to help us understand parents preferences as we plan for coming back to school.
